Coogee Chemicals Acid and Caustic Pipeline Project
Tetra Tech Proteus has partnered with Coogee Chemicals on many expansion projects over the years, and were engaged for phase one of this project, which is being developed to secure reliable delivery of reagents to the new battery metals plants being developed.
The project will deliver not only improved operational safety on site, but will significantly improve community safety by reducing the movement of large trucks on the surrounding roads.
Design services consisted of two pipelines, up to 4km in length, which transfer the chemical reagents from the client facilities throughout public land, railway reserve traversing under roads and rail crossings to the premises of the new metal refineries within the Kwinana industrial corridor.
Challenges addressed for this project included routing the pipelines underground to ensure adequate horizontal and vertical alignment to minimise clashes with existing services, while maintaining a consistent gradient for drainage towards the client facilities. Our team worked with local government information to ascertain the location and elevation of underground services to safely chart a pathway for the pipeline. The pipeline design incorporates hydraulic and surge analysis, suitable pipeline arrangements, internal and external corrosion requirements to ensure the longevity and structural safety of the project, while complying within process target requirements.
Completion of this project required a multidisciplinary team from Tetra Tech, including process, mechanical, structural, civil, and electrical/instrumentation specialists.
