Nelson Point north yard substation
A new substation and installation was designed for a geographically constrained area by Tetra Tech Proteus to upgrade BHP Iron Ore’s processing plant at Nelson Point, Port Hedland.
The Tetra Tech Proteus design enabled BHP to remove electrical and control services from a redundant tertiary crushing building which was to be demolished. The new substation is fitted with new communications and arc fault contained switchgear to meet industry standards, boost reliability and reduce the risk of injury to personnel as well as damage to equipment.
Tetra Tech Proteus’ services included:
- Selection phase engineering, conceptual designs and location assessment
- Definition phase detailed design for fabrication and installation
- Execution phase construction and commissioning support
